A screen recording is a big picture shown small. A 1440p desktop scaled into a feed or an email is a wall of tiny text, and the one field you are talking about is a few pixels tall. A zoom fixes that: it is the video equivalent of pointing at the screen. Supercut can generate zooms from your cursor on the desktop app, and you can place, retime, or delete every one of them by hand.
Camera footage is composed for its frame. A screen recording is not: it is a whole desktop, captured at whatever size your monitor happens to be, then shrunk to fit wherever the video is watched. Menu labels, form fields, and inline validation all survive that shrink badly. A zoom does two jobs at once. It makes the detail legible, and it tells the viewer where to look, which is the part people underrate. Without one, a viewer spends the first two seconds of every step scanning the frame for whatever changed. With one, the answer is already centered. That is why a demo with four well-placed zooms reads as clearer than the same demo at the same length with none.
The desktop app samples your cursor position about sixty times a second while you record. When you stop the take, Supercut looks for the moments where the pointer settled, merges the ones that sit close together in time and space, and turns the strongest of them into push-ins with a lead in and a lead out, so the zoom starts a beat before you act rather than after. On macOS it also records clicks, so a click on the move counts as a reason to zoom even when the cursor never paused. That is how people actually demo things: click and keep going. Every generated zoom is an ordinary editable zoom afterwards, so you can retime it, move its target, or delete it. In the browser there is no way to watch the cursor outside the page, so there are no automatic zooms there and you place them yourself.
Select the recording on the timeline and the inspector shows its demo settings, including the list of zooms. Add one, and it starts where the last one ended; set its start and end and where in the frame it should push into. The timings are measured into the source recording rather than into the timeline, which is the detail that makes them survivable. Trim the front of the clip, split it, or move it, and the zoom stays attached to the moment it was pointing at. That is also why a saved look preset carries your backdrop, padding, corners, and cursor style across projects but does not carry zooms: zooms belong to the footage that produced them, and pasting them onto other footage puts push-ins over whatever happens to be at those frames.
Three habits separate a zoom that helps from one that makes viewers seasick. Hold long enough to read: a push-in that arrives and leaves inside a second is just a flinch. Zoom less often than you think, because when everything is emphasized nothing is; four in a two-minute demo is usually plenty. And stay inside your captured resolution, since a zoom crops into real pixels and a 2x push-in on a 720p capture looks exactly like a 2x push-in on a 720p capture. Watch the camera bubble too. A zoom exists to point at something, and a bubble parked over that something defeats it, so pull the bubble back or hide it for the length of the zoom.
